Kneejerk reactions to crime are a disservice to both perpetrators and victims.

The onus should surely focus on prevention given that so much crime is committed by people who herald from a background rooted in poverty, addiction and compromised mental health.

An effective response to crime should focus resource on healing trauma.

Early intervention with children and a funded and supported mental health care service would pay dividends.
